FACIAL SCARS

Because of its location, a facial scar is frequently considered a cosmetic problem, whether or not it is hypotrophic (depressed the skin) or hypertrophic (elevate the skin). Multiple, bilateral, hypotrophic scars are consequences of pustulo-nodular acne. Hypertrophic scars usually are due to trauma or surgery. Under some genetically disposition hypertrophic scars may become keloids (going far beyond the limits of the initial lesion). While no scar can be removed completely, there are several ways which alone or in combination can to make a facial scar less noticeable.

Surgical revision is to cut out the scared tissue and directly close the healthy skin.

Z-plasty is a way to camouflage a scar by changing its shape and orientation.

Punch-out is a technique of removal pitted acne scars, combined with micro- stitches or micro-skin-grafts.

Dermabrasion represents removal of superficial dermal layer, including scared tissue, with manual or electrical abrasion.

Chemical peels are used alone for superficial scars.

Augmentation means injecting collagen or hyaluronic acid under the scar to bring it to surface level.

Intralesional injection of triamcinolone acetonide reduces the size of a scar. It is indicated in treating hypertrophic and keloid scars.
Only a consultation with a specialist can decide the most appropriate way to treat a scar
