Otoplasty

Cosmetic ear surgery, or otoplasty, is usually done to set prominent ears back closer to the skull or to reduce the size of large ears. The operation can be successfully performed at any age above 6. Common to all otoplastic techniques is reshaping the curves and proportions of ear cartilage through an incision concealed behind the ear. In less than a week stitches and bandages are removed and replaced, during night, with an elastic wrap. The swelling and bruises disappear in 2-4 weeks. Going back to school or work is possible in a week or so.

Otoplasty means more than normal looking ears; it is a straightforward way of dealing with a complex that can poison someone's childhood, adolescence or adult life, preventing her/him from achieving her/his maximal social or professional potential.
