Face Lifting
Facelift surgery (rhytidectomy) is a complex procedure intended to rejuvenate facial appearance by removing, partially or completely, the effects of gravitation, loss of skin elasticity and unwanted fat accumulation in the face and the neck.
- Facial problems a facelift can improve are:
- deepen nasolabial folds, (running from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth)
- loss of a well-defined jawline due to skin sagging
- deep wrinkles in the cheeks and sagging of the cheekbones area
- loose skin, wrinkles, vertical “cords” or excess fatty tissue in the neck
The incision for facelift usually begins in the hair near the temple and continues in front of the ear, around the ear lobe, behind the ear and into the hair. The skin is separated from the fat and muscle below, sagging facial tissues are tightened, excess skin is removed, and the remaining skin is elevated and fixed in this position. If the neck needs lifting, a small incision may be made under the chin.
When necessary, facelift can be combined with eyelid surgery, to improve the periorbital appearance, chemical peel, to resurface the skin of the face or dermabrasion to remove the small vertical wrinkles on the upper lip.
Commonly, a facelift can often make a person appear to be a decade younger than their actual age. Even the face will continue to age with time, it will continue to look better than if he/she would never had a facelift at all.
